The rule
In a Dutch main clause the conjugated verb is always in position 2. Position 1 can be the subject, but also a time word, a place or a word like daarom.
When something other than the subject is in position 1, the subject moves to after the verb. This is called inversion.

- Right: Morgen werk ik thuis.
- Wrong: Morgen ik werk thuis.
Words that often start a sentence
Time: morgen, gisteren, vandaag, volgende week, op zaterdag. Linking words: daarom, toen, daarna, eerst, ook. After all of these: verb, then subject.
- Right: Daarom bel ik u.That's why I'm calling you.
- Wrong: Daarom ik bel u.
- Right: Volgende week ga ik naar Spanje.
