Starting your answer
In Spreken you often have to give your opinion and a reason. Start with one of these, and finish with want or omdat.
- Ik vind dat het een goed idee is.I think it's a good idea.
- Volgens mij is dat te duur.In my opinion that's too expensive.
- Ik ben het (niet) met u eens.I (don't) agree with you.
- Ik denk dat ik liever thuis werk.I think I'd rather work from home.
Watch the word order
After dat the verb goes to the end: Ik vind dat het is … → Ik vind dat het duur is**.
After Volgens mij comes inversion: Volgens mij is het ….
- Right: Ik vind dat het te duur is.
- Wrong: Ik vind dat is het te duur.
- Wrong: Volgens mij het is te duur.
Exam tip
A short answer with an opinion and a reason scores better than a long answer without a reason. Ik vind fietsen beter, want het is gezond en goedkoop.
